Today, as ever, search engine optimisation continues to reign supreme as the dark overlord of the Internet. Roughly 60% of us click on the natural (non-sponsored/paid for links) on search engines. Of those, approximately 46% click on the first ranked site, 11% on the second, 6% on the third and so on into insignificance. Therefore never has the cry “why isn’t my website on the first page of Google?!” been so important, but unfortunately still so misunderstood.
75% of search engine optimisation is just good practice – good strategy, good build and good content that is well copy-written. The purveyors of SEO really earn their money in the battle of the final 25% in highly competitive markets.
Understanding broadly how it works is step one. Step two is finding an SEO agency (or using an existing digital agency) and letting them know that you know how it works. Step three is working out together how to win the battles in the final 25%.
SEO is, if you like, the battleground where it can all be won or lost. Approaching it through shared knowledge and understanding with the right partners is the best way forward.
David Verklin, CEO. Carat, Americas says: "Not playing to the (search engine) algorithms is like putting a billboard up in the woods."
